My husband and I are immigrating at the end of the year and I have already notified my domestic worker verbally that we are leaving and that I will only require her services till the end of October 2014.    She has worked for me for 6 years,  3 days a week and 6 hours a day (including lunch break).

I suggested that I help her find a new job now so that she isn't left unemployed when we go but she has refused as she wants to take a few months off and claim UIF.    Am I required to pay her severance pay?    I will obviously pay her for the leave due and I was also planning to pay her the Christmas bonus I would normally have given her ie an additional month's salary.
