I received a notice of possible impending retrenchment from the company. Already we had two consultation meetings. I'm employed as regional compliance manager - in the Limited payout machine industry overseeing five provinces.Initially my salary was paid by head office. What happened was one of gambling Boards in one of the provinces issued a directive to say , the province must appoint a compliance manager in that province. My contract when issued indicated that I will be based in that province, to me that was an indication that the company wanted to to comply with the directive from the gambling board. After that a letter was forwarded to the Board to say I was appointed a Compliance Manager in that province. and subsequently my salary was paid by the province no longer head office.
During the consultation process I proposed to the company to consider me for the position in that province since they indicated that the Regional Compliance Manager position is considered redundant based on the fact that I was already appointed in that position in the province based on the directive from the gambling board. The reason given was that the province does not have money. The process of consultation is still going on and will have our next meeting this coming Monday. Please note that there is no union and I consult directly with the company. Any advise for me as how to handle this matter. One of the submissions I made was for the company to clarity as to which position is considered redundant among the two positions e.g Regional Complaince Manager or Compliance Manager in that province.
