Good day

I trust that you are well.

I 'd really appreciate some advice on the below;

Timeline of events:

30 Nov -  a recruitment agency secured an interview for me with a a large company ( a 3 month contract with an opportunity to go permanent)

2 Dec - The agent contacted me saying  that I had been successful, I am to commence duties on 4 Jan 2016, discussed salary ( she said she would negotiate a nett of R30k pm ) and that she would send the documents thereof.

7 Dec  -I sent a follow up email on he contract and her response was that I would receive them before close of business. This never happened.

14 Dec -I sent another follow up email. She called informing that there are changes, the budget for the role is R215 000 per annum for now. Which would mean a 40% drop in my earnings from R360k. She  would however send he documents. Of which she failed to.

17 Dec - I sent another follow up email. No response.

6 Jan - After escalating the issue to her management, she sends an email stating that she is still waiting for approval of my contract - but the starts date as verbally communicated was the 4th of Jan.

It's now the 27th Jan and no communication or income.

I don't understand how the conclusion of a temp role can take this long and why the agent has not kept me informed or why I was sent to an interview that pays well below my 3 previous salaries.

How do I resolve this situation. I am in desperate need of employment.

Just some background from my side; I was retrenched in Jan 2015, I completed a contract at another company on 15 Dec 2015.

Good day

Labour Protect understands the gravity of your situation, however your matter relates to the way in which that recruitment company operates and not specifically labour law. It must also be understood that Negotiations take time and that due to the unequal bargaining power that exists between the employer and employee, it is not often that a prospective employee gets to negotiate  their terms of employment. If you feel that the amount is not acceptable then perhaps you should wait for another job.

Regarding the fact that she is acting unprofessionally and not corresponding with you in an adequate manner, this will have to be taken up with management at the recruitment agency.
