I was implicated in a cash embezzlement issue at work. I knew the evidence against me was enough to get me fired. So I chose to resign. But my employer won't accept the resignation. They scheduled a hearing and I didn't attend. Now they have rescheduled the hearing again. What do I do?
You do not have to attend a disciplinary hearing. However, do note that when you tender resignation, you are simply stating that you wish to terminate the contract at the end of a certain time period. Usually this process is specifically provided for in the contract of employment. It is therefore not an offer, leading to acceptance of your resignation, but a notice of intention. Your employer does not have to "accept" it. Should the notice period already have expired, you should no longer be employed by your employer and any disciplinary process brought against you after expiry is moot.
