I use my private vehicle for work purposes. My km's add up to 30 000 a year. The company pays for fuel but only pays R4800 maintenance per year. Is this right?

Good day

Always refer to your employment contract first. It is important to understand the terms within the contract. Depending on the industry an employee should  not be put out of pocket in order to complete his work.

The employment contract states what your salary will be and it must be agreed upon between both parties. The employment contract will also state the type of compensation the employee will receive. If the employee has accepted the terms of the compensation in this case payment for KMs and R4800 for maintenance a year then they are bound.

Therefore it is important to understand what has been agreed upon by looking at the signed contract of employment.

Regards LP

Good day,

There is no mention of maintenance or amount of maintenance speculated on the contract. Neither does the contract mention use of private vehicle for company use. It only has a clause for use of company vehicles that have been allocated to certain staff. These staff travel just as much as I do.
