I have been unfairly retrenched by my company i would like to know how can my boss retrench me saying my position is redundant as he will be taking over my position as Bookkeeper, how is this possible as the Company only has one other employee which is the receptionist, and my boss has stated that he can do my job, when he is a builder an has no experience in bookkeeping or any form of training on any accounting program.

Is this retrenchment fair?.

Good day,

Your employer has most likely dismissed you based on operational requirements. Unfortunately redundancy is a valid reason to retrench an employee. On the other had if he had states that he was retrenching you for operational requirements and then decides to employ someone else to do your job then it may be see as an unfair dismissal but this does not apply in your case as he himself has chosen to do your job.
